differnces between PDF and RTF

I try to output a document using the PDF backend with a stylesheet I used
before to output RTF. It works nice, which should not be a surprise, but 
the boxes are ill placed in the PDF file.
My page has two boxes, one at the top and the othe in the middle
of the page. In my pdf output, both are glued together at the
top; this was not the case in RTF.
Did someone had this sort of problem ?
