That makes <author> look like content.

I've done some delving, and <glossterm> can contain <revhistory>,
which is far more useful.  <revhistory> contains one or more
<revision>, which contains <revnumber>, <date>, <authorinitials>, and
<revremark>.  This makes it easy to record the author's name and see
who wrote what.
