Oops.  (string ...) generates a *string*, not a flow object; that
should be

(make character
      char: #\o)

or

(literal (string #\o))

The first is probably preferable.

You might be able to hack around with the glyph tables referred to in
12.6.11, but I haven't done anything with those.
