SDATA entities

Can anyone give me a suggestion as to how to specify the translation
of the various SDATA text entities in my SGML document, via Jade, into
HTML?  I am using the Jade SGML Transformation syntax --
(make element...) etc -- not the HTML backend.

I have various entities that need to be handled differently -- eg,
some have HTML entity equivalents, some need to be dumbed down to
ascii characters, and some have to be rendered via inline images or
other chunks of HTML.  I can determine what to do from the SDATA text,
but how do I get at that?
