When you make <sect1> make a simple-page-sequence, each one will start a new page in the Word document, but you can select all of the pages and in the "Layout" tab of the "Page Setup" dialog box (accessed from the "File" menu) change the "Section Start" selection from "New Page" to "Continuous". No doubt it's possible to write a Word macro to do it for you (which could be made easier if you used James Clark's heading-level characteristic and applied a Word style to, for example, the <sect1> titles).
