converting HTML tables to Docbook tables

Has anyone previously written code to convert HTML tables to Docbook
tables? I have a reporting application (SAS) that can produce HTML 3.2 
tables, and I'd like to (batch) convert them into SGML tables for
use in DocBook dtd and stylesheets. The tables can include both row
and column spans.
