Fine-tuned, there are also widths of outer vertical borders, and widths for
vertical rulings that would reduce the default widths.  

In an entry with horizontal spanning of several columns, the internal 
vertical ruling widths would add to width available for para.

How would your model handle some rows of the column flow objects that
have horizontal spans?
