Turning XML into HTML for beginners?

I want to transform an XML document (containing no HTML-esque markup) into
HTML using Jade - although I've seen the technique hinted at in various
places (not least
http://www.mulberrytech.com/dsssl/dsssldoc/tutorials/core-exp/), I haven't
found any simple explanations or tutorials on the correct was to go about
it! Can anyone provide me with some pointers?
