Page numbers, margn spaces and page restart

(I have a few basic questions.

(question one
I want to be able to restart page numbering. I have put the following 
construct inside a simple-page-sequence sosofo (

(  page-number-restart?: #t
))
but I'm told its not valid inside a simple-page-sequence. Yet, it
doesn't seem to work anywhere else. What am I doing wrong.)

(question two
(also, is there a way to get page numbers on the left margin on left pages, and right 
margin on right pages?))

(finally, 
(i have set my top margins and bottoms margins, and put a header and footer in. But the header
and footer are pushed right up against the top of the paper. Not kosher. top margin is set to 
8pi and top header to 1/2 an inch (6pi). Is there a setting I'm missing???))
