what would be useful would be a tightly coupled formater
that allowed page-sequence and friends.

If it was `just' a back end that made pdf, it is not clear
that this would follow:

If it does save time it is of course useful. But not if it does it
by not taking as much care over the formatting as TeX.

So probably the answer to your `would it be useful' question
is yes, but it might be no, I can't be sure from the amount of
information given:-)
