Totally ignorant question

I've used jade on my refentry pages to generate
rtf, html, etc.
Trying to use jadetex to get .dvi and .pdf.

jade -t tex -d path/docbook.dsl -V tex-backend name.sgml
jadetex name.tex

For some reason, the output is unformatted.

Does anyone have any suggestions?  (Besides the
obvious one: Learn more!)
