Franziska,

The first JATS/NLM DTD was built based on existing article models at the time
(2001-2002), and there had been no need at that time for formulae in Journal
and Book titles. This was before the <source> element had been expanded for
support things like Data Citations

Ibd argue that the content of <article-title> is different that what we
would expect in <source>, but that would really just be an academic or
philosophical exercise. If you need <inline-formula> in <source>, then please
make a request as Vincent suggested and include your example(s).

Jeff

Dear Jeff,

Thanks for the comment.
Ibll think we stay with Publishing for now, since this is a rare case and
use this workaround. But I think, if more restrictions are coming up, we might
switch to Archiving (also since BITS is based on Archiving too).

I was just wondering why article-title allows inline equations and source
doesnbt. Since this is the same kind of information it should have the same
content model, donbt you think?

Thanks, Franziska

Franziska,

<inline-formula> is allowed in <source> in the Archiving Tag Set.

Would it be difficult to write an JATS-archivearticle1.dtd DOCTYPE into this
article and process it through your system?

Ibm sure you use a subset of the Publishing Tag Set (business rules). This
article would follow the same business rules except you could have
inline-formula in source.

Jeff

Hi Vincent,

thatbs a good idea. I will collect some examples and submit a change
request.

Thanks,

Franziska

Hi Franziska,

This might be a reasonable change for the JATS DTDs/schemas to allow
<inline-formula> within <source>. Would you be interested in submitting a
change request? It could also be helpful if you can include some examples of
the titles that you are trying to tag in <source> in the change request.

Here is the link to the comments form for change requests. (The form does not
like angle brackets, so XML examples could be uploaded as an attached doc.)

http://www.niso.org/apps/group_public/add_comment.php?document_id=15932

This doesnbt really help if you are trying to tag content today, but if this
change is included in a future version of JATS you will be able to tag
formulas in <source> without resorting to workarounds.

Vincent

Dear all,

webre using JATS Journal Publishing DTD v1.1.
Sometimes, we canbt avoid having equations within article titles or book
titles as part of bibliographic items/references (element-citation).
This works for <article-title> since <inline-formula> and are
allowed, but when using this for book-titles (<source>), these elements are no
longer available.
Do you have any experience how to deal with that?

Thanks, Franziska
