Thanks Debbie. This is useful. I think this will do it. However I do think there is still a need for an inline-media element that caters for this situation and identifies "integral" media as an inline call. I'll make a request. You want <media> to act as a highlighting element, surrounding existing text to hold the link to the audio. Sorry, neither <graphic> nor <media> work in this fashion. However, <named-content> may work. There are at least two possibilities: - <named content> can contain an <ext-link> - <named-content> takes the following attributes, some of which are linking: alt Alternative Text content-type Type of Content id Document Internal Identifier rid Reference to an Identifier specific-use Specific Use vocab Vocabulary/Taxonomy Name vocab-identifier Vocabulary/Taxonomy Identifier vocab-term Vocabulary/Taxonomy Term vocab-term-identifier Vocabulary/Taxonomy Term Identifier xlink:actuate Actuating the Link xlink:href Href (Linking Mechanism) xlink:role Role of the Link xlink:show Showing the Link xlink:title Title of the Link xlink:type Type of Link xml:base Base xml:lang Language xmlns:xlink XLink Namespace Declaration Would this work for you? Without knowing more about what you want to do, it sounds to me like you are looking for a <fig> containing a <media>. > > Tommie > >> On Oct 9, 2017, at 11:24 AM, Mike Eden meden@xxxxxxxxxxxxx <jats-list-service@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: >> >> Hi, >> >> Id like to be able to call media files for a specific piece of text in an article. >> >> Given the statements from JATS documentation >> For NISO JATS, which predates NISO RP-15-2013, all integral material is part of the base article (inside the <article> element) and all supplementary material is external to the article. >> In contrast, the elements <supplementary-material> and <inline-supplementary-material> are used to describe either XML material (such as figures, tables, and sections) or non-XML material (such as graphics, films, audio clips, datasets, or other material) that are considered to be additional material (non-integral) accompanying a document. >> >> <inline-supplementary-material>, like <supplementary-material>, should be used for additional content. >> If the content in question is integral, such as a sound file of a vowel or word, then these are not really considered additional, but integral, so one option would be to capture as <media> but he model does not allow it to contain #PCDATA to allow the hyperlinking of the text of the phonetics/text. >> >> Ideally there should be an <inline-media> element to reflect the same models as supplementary material but for integral content. >> >> Id be interested to know how anyone else has tackled this situation. >> >> Any thoughts? >> >> Regards >> Mike Eden >> >> Cambridge University Press >> >> >> >> >> Cambridge University Press is the publishing business of the University of Cambridge with VAT registered number GB 823 8476 09.
