Subject: The Complete Works of Shakespeare... revamp From: Guy_Murphy@xxxxxxxxxx Date: Mon, 22 Mar 1999 11:38:22 +0000 |
Hi. For those that have expressed interest in the presentation of The Complete Works of Shakespeare that I made, you might be interested to note, that I've totaly revamped it with the advent of IE5 going gold, and pulled it into a general framework into which I'll place other work over the next couple of weeks. The new url is... http://www.guy-murphy.easynet.co.uk ...*** IE5 ONLY ***... sorry, I don't have the time for X-browser at the mo. The Shakespeare is under XML Application -> Shakespeare And there's precious little more except for the About This Site stuff. The site *is* a proof of concept site. It intends to serve no other purpose other than a playground in which I can try out new technologies, however I'm more than pleased if others find it helpful. In this incarnation I was primarily interested in utilising HTCs to produce formatting objects for use from XSL. For instance the windows are produced from XSL with only... <window:frame> <window:title>A Window</window:title> <window:content> ...Any content you want here... </window:content> </window:frame> ...And the menus in a similar fashion. It's my belief that the significance of formatting objects to XML/XSL and XML + CSS styling hasn't been realised, so I plan to explore this area in the future more. If I had the time I think it would be interesting to try and impliment the XSL FOs using HTCs (I'm suprised MS don't do this, they could prototype using mark-up and JScript, then move them over to a DLL if/when stable)... but I don't have the time. I do intend to take a look at XSL FOs and see what bits would be an easy port to HTC implimentation. The site is very much still alpha, so please look on it with tolerant eyes. I'm only announcing it here due to previous interest, and the fact that like trees falling in woods, does a Web site with nobody looking at it really exist? The source wont be available for download until next week-end, as I'm loathe to make it available without documentation. This is especialy necessary for the Menu HTC, as it has the assumptive interpretation of a crude extended linking mechanism built into it, that people might what to alter or simply hack out. And the Window HTC needs documenting in order to restyle. Any comments are welcomed. Oh, and apart from The Religious Works (which should be up by end of next week-end), and Heart of Darkness, does anybody know of any other interesting bodies of XML work. Articles and papers on XML related stuff would be nice too.
