Agreed, but then maybe the scope should be widened a bit. One day in the electronic publishing future we'll want it to be possible for (audio-)visual design to be done by people who specialize in design, rather than programmer-designer hybrids. Neither DOM+CSS nor XSL address that constituency IMO. Could tools help? I'm not so sure ...
