Clearly C++ is faster than Java. Servlets have the advantage at least, of sharing a single java virtual machine, so there are few (if any) startup costs per transaction. (Although I feel very nervous standing here and defending Java. We're just starting out with servlets, and have yet to gain any solid experience yet.)
