Subject: Need an advice about XSLT From: "Olivier Martineau" <alcatel-crc@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: 28 Oct 1999 09:59:22 -0000 |
Hello everybody, I'm new in this list, and also in the world of XML. I've got a project which is to transform XMLnews documents (a particular XML dtd which is dedicated to the world of news). I have to write an application which will adapt a XMSnews document to a HTML parser, or a WML parser (it is an equivalent to HTML but for wireless devices such as mobile phones). Since there are numerous devices with different specifications (e.g. screen resolution), my application will let me enter some parameters in order to transform the XML doc into a WML or HTML doc which will fit the best to the device particular specifications. My doubt comes about XSLT. For what I understood, I should use an XSL stylesheet which would include XSLT instructions that would transform my XML doc into an HTML or WML doc. But I read also that XSLT was used to transform the structure of an XML document into another XML document. Does the key reside in the fact that an HTML or WML document is just an XML document with a particular dtd ? Do I need to create as many XSLT sheets as there are different devices ? I'm so new to XML, I read a lot of documents, but I feel still confused, so if you can bring me some advice, I would be grateful.
