I copied this script and called it up from IE 5.0. It seemed to work
fine.  I presume you are calling the script from an XML document that
specifies this script as an *.xsl stylesheet.  I also added the <?xml
version="1.0?> on the first line.  No reason why it shouldn;t work
without that it called from an XML doc.

The syntax doesn't directly violate any javascript conventions.
