what I have done is combine the two xml files into one
by creating a new root node containing the two:

<newRoot>
   <a>...</a>
   <b>...</b>
</newRoot>

I dynamically create xml and would also like to pass
two xml strings, but I don't want to use the
filesystem to pass data by using the document()
function.
