That should work > in any browser I can think of, which is odd as selected="1" doesn't validate against the HTML or XHTML DTD. selected (selected) #IMPLIED selected="selected" is the only value allowed, but the attribute name (and the = and the quotes) may be omitted in SGML (ie HTML) but not XML.
