output redirect

I am running xalan as such:
xalan -in foo.xml -xsl foo.xsl -out foo.html
I want to build a debug path where certain messages prints to stdout 
(instaid of the file provided by -out). Is it possible from within the 
stylesheet to print to stdout (regardless of the -out flag)?
