Just the other day, off-list, I had to explain the actual processing model
to someone, because they were thinking of templates in the 'easier' way
and didn't understand why not all the templates were being executed. A
better explanation would be to think of them as being equivalent to
<xsl:when>s in a giant <xsl:choose>...
