Hi, Jeff: The problem you have is because value of xsl:variable can NOT be updated. Once they are set, they retain that value within the scope they are defined. It is one of the most commonly made mistakes in XSL. In your case, I think your code can be easily changed to use xsl:choose to get what you want: <xsl:template name="myTemplate"> <xsl:for-each select="attribute"> <xsl:choose> <xsl:when test="@type='Size'"> Size is present. </xsl:when> <xsl:otherwise> Size was never found. </xsl:otherwise> </xsl:choose> </xsl:for-each> </xsl:template> Hope this helps, Xiaocun --- Jeff Fletcher <jfletcher@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: > Can someone tell me why the following doesn't work? > > <xsl:template name="myTemplate"> > <xsl:variable name="sizePresent" select="'no'"/> > <xsl:for-each select="attribute"> > <xsl:if test="@type='Size'"> > <xsl:variable name="sizePresent" select="'yes'"/> > Size is present. > </xsl:if> > </xsl:for-each> > > <xsl:if test="$sizePresent='no'"> > Size was never found. > </xsl:if> > </xsl:template> > > When I run it I get: > Size is present. > Size is present. > Size is present. > Size was never found. > > What I want is either: > Size is present. > Size is present. > Size is present. > > or: > Size was never found. > > XSL-List info and archive: > http://www.mulberrytech.com/xsl/xsl-list > __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
