This is shorthand for

> *[@border]
selects all child elements of the current node that have border
This is shorthand for

> node()[@border]
this selects all child nodes of the current node that have border
This is shorthand for
since any node that is not an element can not have a border attribute,
in this case, this is equivalent to the previous example, using *.

XPath does not have a namespace, it is the expression language of XSLT.
