Try putting the xsl:for-each around the xsl:call-template: <xsl:for-each select="$src-root"> <xsl:call-template ...> <xsl:with-param ... select="key(keyname, ...)" /> </xsl:call-template> </xsl:for-each> Jeni's solution is simpler than mine but you do need the nested for-each if your named template depends on the current node.
