Which might lead one to think that W3C were hell bent on supporting
W3C schema at the expense of others?

I am fairly certain that not all the membership are so set on 
W3C schema as the be all and end all.

If W3C support one to the detriment of others, there could trouble.
I think there's a word for it in America?
