Looks like a Xalan error message ;-) I think the error is in your call to the key() function, not in the definition of the key. Did you leave off the closing paren? If you're not getting a file and line number, please post a bug in Bugzilla: http://nagoya.apache.org/bugzilla/index.html A sample source file and stylesheet file would be very helpful.
