well yes that's a good question:-)
nearest so far is mathplayer's latest feature of offering to copy the
mathml of a whole expression into windows cut-n-paste buffer.
But if the information is there, implementations can work out in future
the best interface for getting hold of it, if the information isn't
there and has been left on the server then its gone. I don't need
everything to work tody (although that would be nice)

I'd agree with that. But I just just want to see a mechanism that is
for "most people" being deprecated.
