Hi Michael,
	Thanks for the input. I have defined a variable in my xsl to which I
give the value I want for the onClick event.. I have 2 problems. 1) I am
getting a blank value in the resulting HTML & 2) how can assign a function
to it like "sayHello()" as it does not allow me to use "( )"  in the xsl...
Please help.

Use

<a onClick="{$variable}">

Where $variable can actually be replaced by any XPath expression.
