[xsl] finding attributes values

Hi people,

for example:

   <item id="1"/>
   <item id="2"/>
   <item id="3"/>
   <item id="4"/>
</root>

how can I know if exists an id with specific value

I'm trying this...

<xsl:if test="root/item[@id = '2']">
   ...
</xsl:if>
