Sigh, Bit complicated, if one just wants to pass a string. All XSLT engines that have a command line argument allow you to pass parameter values. Similarly all XSLT engine APIs allow you to pass parameters, e.g. JAXP/TrAX has Transformer.setParameter(String name, Object value).
