Umm... I just looked this up in the XML 1.0 spec (3.3.3 Attribute-Value Normalization) and I don't understand how it is reconciled with what you said... "1. All line breaks must have been normalized on input to #xA as described in 2.11 End-of-Line Handling [which refers to element values], so the rest of this algorithm operates on text normalized in this way."
