The thing about mail though is it often goes through gateways that re-encode the message so I can't tell whether your actually posted latin1 or utf8 encoded text. By the time it got here the MIME headers on your mail said: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed and ISO-8859-1 is just the posh name for latin-1.
