Hey JP,

Good to see ya over in the land of XSLT :)

From a free/open source perspective my number one editor of choice is jEdit. With the combination of the SideKick, XML (w/ schema validation), and XSLT plugin, combined with the abbreviations feature of the jEdit environment its tough to beat for writing stylesheets extremely fast and efficient. (e.g. 'tm' followed by the space bar (must explicity turn this on) gives you a well formed xsl:template match="" with the cursor between the quotes of match..)

From a fairly inexpensive standpoint there is the Oxygen editor form Sync.Ro Soft (oxygenxml.com) which gives you a really good debug environement among other things.

I like Sonic Studio as well but the price is no where near free so its tough to recommend, especially when the two tools above give you so much for so little.

Hope this helps!
