Jay,

If there's any doubt about it, please do not take my "correction" to be directed at you personally. I certainly agree that helping others is a great way to hone one's own skills, and in that spirit I urge you to continue answering questions on the list. Your contributions have certainly been helpful, and your willingness and that of others to stick your necks out is a big part of what keeps the list working well for everyone -- not least because seeing the discussion over what's "best" (often it's not so clear) is itself helpful for clarifying issues.

There are a few messages in the archive in which you'll see my suggestions being similarly improved.

Cheers,
Wendell

I do try to make sure my answers are correct, so that, even though I may
not have the best solution, at least I'm not misleading anyone. To that
end, I generally test my answers with Saxon. However, as you just
demonstrated, I often don't come to the best solution. Over time, as I
participate in the list and you and the other gurus critique my answers to
people's questions, I'll get better at XSL.

So far, it's been working. Clearly, I have a ways to go, but I find myself
using different constructs than I did a few months ago.

Thanks again for the continuing education.
