That would be way cool.

You might check out 4Suite, at http://4Suite.org -- an XSLT 1.0 processor 
in Python (and quite a decent one too, and open source). But its developers 
have not expressed an interest in XSLT 2.0, so there may be an opportunity 
there.

Note that I'm not myself a Pythoneer, although I like the ones I've met, 
and I've certainly been happy with the smidgens of Python code I have written.
