I would therefore need a to have a scalable solution to transform and populate a table with each of the images. yes but what I meant is that "not scalable" usually imples something working for small examples that fails to work with big ones. I can't see how the code you posted could have that property that caused you to describe it as "not scalable". If your processor enforces url('') syntax it should not work on any examples that have an image, if it does not enforce that syntax it should work no matter how many images you have.
