No, this means: Select all element children of the top element of the xml document I would recommend learning XPath, because XPath expressions are essential in writing XSLT transformations. Probably one of Jini's books is the best to use for this purpose. Also, playing with the XPath Visualizer has been found to have good results in learning and understanding XPath.
