I think I'll write my own collation class anyway, but now it'll be a 
no-stress exercise to increase my understanding of Java and Saxon, rather 
than a gotta-do-it-right-now-for-a-client task.

If you find some character that is sorteded before "a" eg "@" thenyou
can do

<xsl:sort select="translate(@name,' ','@')
