you need to say what did happen: did you get an error message (if so,
what) or the wrong element name.

  I am using it like that :

  < xsl:element name="{./@name}">... </xsl:element>

That should work assuming you didn't have a space between < and
xsl:element, and assuming the current node does have a name attribute.
You could write it as name="{@name}" you never need to start an XPath
with ./.
