[xsl] Update source.xml

A couple of months ago there was a thread which updated one xml file from
another.
(The file to update was source.xml from update.xml)
The xsl ran on source.xml and produced the correct result as xml.

This question will sound stupid but is it possible to update the source.xml
file directly? (from xsl).   Sorry, but I'm new to this stuff...
