<xsl:variable name="Mnodes" select="//ROW | //CELL | //A ..."/>

<xsl:when test="every $d in .//* satisfies exists($d intersect $Mnodes)"/>

(Is there a more concise way to do this? How would it compare in 
terms of efficiency?)
