> as far as i can see, the normal 'replace' funktion does match > multiple characters but only replace *one* character. replace() in XPath 2.0 does what you want. For example replace("The cat sat on the mat", "at", "orn") gives "The corn sorn on the morn". Michael Kay http://www.saxonica.com/
