I ran this a couple of days ago on Firefox 2,
I think it took a minute or so.

Just downloaded Firefox 3, did it again. Pretty quick,
I counted to 10 and it was rendered!

As a matter of fact, I just was going to write an email that I followed the advice to do some performance homework on the XSLT, and improved performance a lot (mainly by introducing xsl:key where before I just didn't care because I was totally happy with Saxon's performance).

So I really don't think it has to do with FF3; you may want to compare with <http://svn.tools.ietf.org/svn/wg/httpbis/rfc2629xslt/rfc2629.xslt> which is still the old code.
