What you describe is more or less exactly what XSLT does.
So your question can basically be rephrased as
"how can I write an XSLT stylesheet"
There are several ways, but you need to give some clue as to what the
stylesheet is supposed to do. Please read the list posting guidelines
that are posted regularly to this list and linked from its home page.
