regarding Stampede, it seems fairly clear without looking at any code that the graphics used DOUBLE wide pixels, but each line is offset by one pixel width, for example: XX XX XX XX XX XX XX XX XXXXXXXXXXXX Would be possible with one player drawn this way (don't ask what it is, I dunno).
