It's a quirk of the 2600 (related to HMOVE I believe).  Activision blacked
out the left hand side of the screen, effectively lowering the available
resolution, to avoid it.  I happen to love it, as it is one of the unique
traits of the 2600 video system.  Countless games have the "black comb" on
the left hand side of the screen and none of these, IMHO, are ruined by
it.
