I went back to the store and asked the technician if he had modified
the trak-ball to be compatible with the ST mouse. He said no and then
demonstrated to me with a new out of the box (I wish he had one of those,
when I bought the used one :-( ) trak-ball that it does indeed work
with the ST computer.
So it seems that the CX80 trak-ball (triangular buttons) is compatible
with the ST mouse, while the round button versions are not. I wonder
why Atari changed the protocol between the two models. Are you sure
you had your trak-ball switched to trak-ball mode, when you tried it
with Stell-A-Sketch, Bob? ;-)

p.s. Does anyone know how the second button is connected on the ST
mouse and if it is possible to read it on the VCS?
