I had looked at RSYNC to try and generate an interlaced display by generating the "half line" that is required to do so - unfortunately I never loaded it up onto a real 2600 so I don't know if it worked! The unsolvable problem on that front is that you need to generate horizontal syncs of half normal duration as well, and this is completely under the control of the TIA. I had thought that it might work on some televisions as the technology requiring those "half syncs" has moved on considerably.
