It would save graphic data by 75%, as you could mirror vertically, too. Total cost would be 6 x 192 / 2 / 2 = 288 bytes for a full-screen tunnel like the red one I posted earlier. Mirroring/flipping would work for the tunnel effect, but not for the spiral effect, as that was not a symmetrical playfield.
